Customer Service Training Manager
Hi! That is a great question, and I can reassure you that there are a few part time and flexible positions on the Railway. I work for GWR so my knowledge will be very Great Western orientated. There are typically around 4 different types of positions that spring to mind, and their suitability will depend on your preferences and experience. The most common would be front line/Customer service role, where you can find jobs as Ticket Examiners (travelling on trains or based at Stations where you are responsible for checking and selling all kinds of tickets to our customers). The other is that of a Gateline Assistant, whose responsibility it is to safely operate the ticket barriers, ensure customers have the right tickets before entering the station and provide first class customer service. Both of these can often be advertised as part time and are popular with students. The last from the front line roles would be a Weekend Host. These roles offer our catering service on board our Intercity Express Trains, either by delivering a First Class service, a standard class trolley service, or both. As the role suggests, these are Saturday and Sunday positions but there are plenty of opportunities for overtime if you would be able and willing. The fourth type is administrative work, but these roles come up less often but still worth looking out for! I would suggest looking out for these positions, and signing up for job alerts on our careers website. I can see now that there is a Ticket Examiner role in Bristol for Saturdays advertised now, as well as Lounge Host in Penzance. Good luck, and please message again if you need any more help!
