Thank you David for your question. I started my career "off the street" so I joined straight as a trainee train driver however I do know a lot of friends who were internal railway employees before moving into a drivers role. There is nothing stopping you from doing the same as me and applying from outside the railway. I see the benefits of both. Are you looking to apply for a Trainee Drivers role?
