How do I get in contact with the relative department for learning to become a train drive?

Hi Frank - so sorry to hear about your situation.

We don't simply offer train driver training, you would need to apply for a trainee role and be successfully shortlisted through the various stages, right up to the point of being offered employment. After this, you would then be placed in our training school and receive all the necessary training.

As such, please visit the FirstGroup Careers site to see if there are any trainee train driver vacancies currently available and apply - https://careers.firstgroup.co.uk/jobs/search

Should there not currently be any vacancies advertised, then at the bottom of the above page is the facility to register for job alerts. This will enable you to be automatically notified by email whenever a vacancy is advertised that matches your set criteria.

In terms of becoming a train driver, there are some minimum requirements of the role to make you aware of:

  • You must be 21 years of age or older to be accepted on to the training course, as this is an industry requirement.
  • You'll need to live within 60 minutes travel time to the depot, without using public transport when it is not available. The safety responsibilities make this requirement a necessity.
  • You will be needed to work shifts of varying start times, including weekends and nights shifts.
  • You'll need to pass a full driver medical which includes passing hearing, sight, and colour vision tests.

I hope this helps.
